Yesterday morning we were getting you two ready for school when Georgia fell and bumped her head pretty hard on a dresser. Sissy was really upset, even though I was holding her. You came over to see the commotion and had the following exchange:

Palmer: Dor-duh (translation: Georgia) hurt her head?
Daddy: (still holding a bawling sissy) Yeah, she'll be ok.
P: (looking very concerned) She need go ho-pital?
D: No, she's just got a little bump.
P: (patting her on the back) Yeah, it dus a bump Dor-duh, you ok.

You then run off. I figure you're satisfied with my diagnosis and you're off to go bang some cars into each other. Then you ran back into the room carrying "boo-boo choo-choo" (a Thomas the Train ice pack we keep in the freezer). You handed it to sissy and tried to make her feel better.

You thought of it all on your own. You were thinking of what would make sissy feel better. Pretty amazing considering you're the primary cause of her injuries.

It's really cool to see you start to think of others and what might make them feel better or happy. Makes me think we're doing a good job, after all.

Yesterday was your half birthday, which means today you are closer to five than four. I’m not the type to get all weepy about it, but I’m definitely sentimental and aware that you are one short school year away from being a school-aged child.

We celebrated appropriately with your favorite foods (corn on the cob and shells and cheese) and a half-dozen of your favorite flowers (sunflowers). Sidenote: I love that you’re only four (and a half) and already have a favorite flower. We’ll be planting some in the backyard next spring.

You’ve really grown up this summer. You’ve always been pretty shy around new people, but now you’re introducing yourself to new friends and are more willing to try new things. You’re really excited about going back to school in a couple of weeks. You had a good long cry after learning the devastating news that your two best friends will not be in your class, but you seem to be AOK with it now. You’ve been telling us that you’ll get to play on the big kid playground with the tire swing and basketball court. You’ve even been wearing your uniforms around the house.

You still have an amazing sense of style. Today at the gym one of the mothers commented on the awesomeness of your shoes (you had on pink cowgirl boots with a summer dress). You’re always requesting that I wear dresses and high heels and don’t understand why I can’t wear such niceties to play outside. I am trying to look nicer for you. I recently bought some new dresses and girly shoes. Maybe one of these days I’ll actually wear them.

So what you did last Sunday morning was especially sweet. You were playing upstairs while sissy and I ate breakfast. Daddy woke up and came into the kitchen to say "good morning." When you heard his voice you started sprinting down the stairs yelling, "I missed you daddy" over and over. When you made it down the stairs you darted over to your daddy with a huge grin and big 'ol hug.

We've been having so much fun with our four-year-old daughter that I forgot to blog about how you're now four. First off, your stats:
Height: 43" - 90-97%
Weight: 38# - 75%
BMI: 14.5 - 25%
And you got four shots, which means the rest of your four-year check-up was horrible.

Having a four-year-old is AWESOME! We play games, ride bikes, have conversations, read books. It's all stuff we've done with you all along, but now it's somehow more awesome.

You love to play outside: riding your bikes, watering the flowers, digging in the dirt next door, watching the houses go up around us. I'll draw a big race track in the cul-de-sac out front so you and brother can have races. You're finally warming up to riding your big girl bike with training wheels, but you don't want your daddy to watch you. You love our backyard. You play tee-ball, hide-and-seek and chase with daddy and brother. You like to pretend the backyard is your stage. You'll take your microphone out there, make up funny songs and put on concerts. We also frequently have picnics out there. Something about picnics makes you eat something other than pancakes, so I'm liking this!

You don't take naps anymore, so your brother has boycotted them, too. I was originally bummed about this, but it has turned out to be great. We don't have to stop in the middle of the day, and bedtime is earlier.

You still change your clothes countless times daily. It's no wonder I'm constantly doing laundry.

The funniest word in the English language is underwear. Uncontrollable laughing at the mention of the word.

Big Guy Day

Last weekend sissy and I went to a birthday party that was just for us girls, so you and your daddy had a "Big Guy Day."

You and your daddy went to the golf club. You were so excited, clutching your Snoopy putter on the way there. At the golf course you would put a ball down about an inch away from the hole to putt. You knew it was a special "Big Guy Day" and would periodically say "my big guy."

After about 45 minutes of putting, you and your daddy hit the restaurant where you devoured a ton of French fries with ketchup while watching bowling on TV. Things were slow so the waitress came by to talk to you. She crouched down next to you and asked, "how you doin' little fella?" to which you responded, "my a big guy."

Then you helped daddy pick out a few items from the club shop. When you saw him take his shirt off to try another one on, you tried to take your shirt off, too. You really are getting to be a big guy!

Not Exactly Rainbows and Lollipops

I'm sure every parent has certain ideal moments they picture in their minds. Moments that play like Kennedy-esque home movies where everyone is smiling and laughing (and perfectly tanned; however, with our genes we replace that little tid bit with "pasty white").

Your very first ride on your very first big girl bike would have to be the antithesis of this ideal. The process began well. You and brother were so excited when daddy got home to put together your new bike. You even posed for photos.

You were even a bit of a help at first.

Until you got bored

and decided to abandon the task altogether, leaving daddy to finish the bike (much more quickly) by himself.

And wasn't he proud!

And that is where the pictures end because shortly after unveiling his engineering masterpiece and adjusting your helmet to fit properly, you threw a huge massive fit (which reminds me that I need to go retrieve your shoes from where you threw them into the street). We're hoping for a more delightful ride another day.

You are two. No longer young enough to refer to as being months old. I'm not sappy or nostalgic about you losing your babyness. In fact, I really like big boy Palmer. You're so capable and verbal. We understand most of the things you say, and for the things we don't understand we simply defer to your translator (aka, your sister. She understands everything you say.).

You like to jump and sing and dance and you are constantly running. You're like a little Forrest Gump. You are proud of the things you do and tell us to "wat me" or "yook at me." Or you'll show off a piece of artwork you painted.

You also love to ride your bike and play with balls. Still into Cars and all their characters. Your current favorite character is Sarge because he has a wheel on the back of his truck like your daddy.

Overall the consensus is that you're awesome!

We have had a very busy summer, so I've been slacking on the blog. Here's why: we decided to build a new house, which meant that we had to get our house ready to put on the market. We squeezed all our house prep into two weeks before heading up to KC for a visit. While in KC, daddy's studio was robbed and we sold our house. So now we're in the midst of filling out police reports and packing and moving to KC to stay with nonny and papa for a couple of months while our house is being built.

Meanwhile, you've been growing.

Georgia, you are still more beautiful than I ever could have imagined a daughter of mine to be. You still throw your fits, but not as often or as long. Now you're in a very loving phase making unsolicited declarations of your love for us. I think you're figuring out that being sweet to mommy and daddy helps you get your way.

You're exceedingly curious about our plans for the day ("mommy, where are we going to go after nap?") and about anything, for that matter ("why? mommy why? WHY? MOMMY, I SAID WHHHHHHY?"). Fact is, sometimes I don't know why, and most of the time I just don't care why.

You're still big for your age. While only 3.5 you're already wearing size 5 clothes. I can now shop for you in the little girls' department instead of the infant/toddler section. Sigh.

Palmer, you're at a tough stage for me right now. I've never met a child more bothered by teething. Your inability to express your feelings also frustrates you, so you've become a rather accomplished fit thrower. I don't like it. You've evolved from a sweet, loving baby into a screaming, fit-throwing toddler. But there are still glimpses of the real Palmer. You'll give a hug to anyone when you're in the mood. I have a feeling that once you get all your teeth and you figure out how to express yourself you're going to be back to your normal self.

With a constantly sore mouth you're not much in the mood for food these days. All you drink is milk. Literally. I was beginning to worry that you weren't eating, but you don't seem to be losing weight and I'm sure you'll eat when you decide you're ready.

My favorite physical feature about you now has to be your hairy legs. Your little legs are covered in blond hairs. It's thicker than your sister's. I chuckle every time I see it.

Mommy: And the big bad wolf huffed and puffed until he was out of breath, but he could not blow down the brick house.
Georgia: Why was the big bad wolf out of breath?
M: Because he huffed and puffed too much.
G: One time (breath) when I was a little bitty baby like (breath) like Jackson's baby sister (breath) I was out of breath too (breath) because I ate too much.
M: Really?
G: Yeah.

Our friends Lauren and Noah came to visit so we went out to their grandparents' house to see them. We had a really fun time, and it made me wish they lived closer. You and Lauren had the same swimsuit on and requested a photo. It is one of the most adorable photos ever and makes me wish I had taken the photos with one of our good cameras instead of my crummy old point and shoot.

Then you celebrated by doing a little dance.

You have become interested in bubble gum lately and convinced your daddy to buy you some at the supermarket last weekend. Little did he know that simple purchase would result in an hour-long fit last night after I refused to give you another piece. You swallowed the first.

When I tucked you in last night you talked again about bubble gum:

Georgia: I had bubble gum today.
Mommy: Yeah, did you swallow it?
G: No.
M: Did you throw it in the trash?
G: No.
M: Where did it go?
G: In my belly.
M: You swallowed it?
G: No. I put it in my belly.

Obviously I need an anatomy lesson.

You’ve had a lot going on lately. The biggest thing is that you started school. Oh how I love Tuesdays and Thursdays! As much as I love you and your sister, it’s nice to have a break and do grown-up things. Your teachers are wonderful, and they’re constantly telling us how sweet you are. Your favorite activities are reportedly outside play time and art projects. You don’t much like drop-off time, but you’re always happy when we pick you up and your teachers say you don’t cry long when we leave in the mornings.

You’re teething like mad and have been biting a lot. Last time I picked you up from school your teachers said that you bit three of your classmates. They aren’t as worried about it as I am. They say it’s a phase many children go through and you’ll outgrow it.

You’ve learned how to run and you now spend more time running than walking, making it challenging to keep up with you. It also results in a lot more bumps and bruises. You enjoy dancing around the living room with your sister. Jumping and somersaults are also new skills.

You are absolutely obsessed with the movie Cars. We watch it numerous times daily. We have a copy of it for the house and for the car. You have Lightning McQueen sippy cups, a pillow, blanket, die-cast cars and haulers, pajamas. It’s likely bordering on an unhealthy obsession, but you enjoy it so much that we can’t help but support it.

You’ve had a vocabulary explosion lately. Everyday you surprise us with new words. Interestingly, you still don’t say your name. Some of your newest words include:
dee = Lightning McQueen
ni ni = night night
ot = hot
at = hat
Bee ba = baseball
Da da or dor da = Georgia
Bite = bike or bite
B doh = pit stop
No nee = morning
Di di doh = dinosaur
Bubby dah = puppy dog

We went to a friend's house for some July 4th fun. We were having a grand time until we noticed Georgia was warm. A quick temperature check showed a fever of 103. We watched a movie for a bit and then headed home early.

Palmer was still wanting to party when we got home.

Sissy wasn't.

Two days later you were diagnosed with the flu.

We had a fabulous time at the Grey Rock Golf Club's 4th of July festival. It was actually on July 3rd, but we went anyway.

4th of July Parade

We joined you at your school for the annual 4th of July parade. I was looking forward to getting some pictures of each of you and your friends, but once you saw your daddy and me you didn't want to have anything to do with your friends. Your daddy walked the entire parade route with you, which was about a block long in the school parking lot.

This is the first shirt I've ever purchased for you in the girls' department. Not the baby/toddler department, the girls' department. Sigh...
