Flulike

2 cases of the flu
1 ear infection
1 ruptured ear drum
1 ER visit
1 Urgent care visit
3 doctor visits
2 pricey prescriptions

How is it that the two people in our house that got the flu shot this year also got the flu? It seems so unfair.

I'm not typically the type of person who is aggressive in treating my own illnesses. I tend to wait it out until I feel so crummy that I can barely drive myself to the doctor. But with two kiddos I really need to be well, so when I woke up with a fever on Monday morning, I made an appointment with my doctor (who couldn't even find my file. This should tell you how often I go). He diagnosed the flu, gave me a prescription and sent me home to convalesce.

I figured I would take some pills and lots of clear fluids and be all better in a few days. That is, until I woke up in the middle of the night with a stabbing pain in my ear. It felt like my ear was going to explode, which is actually what it did. Turns out my ear became so infected so quickly that my eardrum ruptured. So now I have the flu, an ear infection and possible permanent hearing loss.

I have so much more to say about how our lives have been turned upside down by this epidemic, but I'm too tired to complain right now.

  • Ouch! I am so sorry. Let me know if there is anything that I can do for you that does not require me to come within 100 feet of you.

  • I HIGHLY recommend staying at least 100 feet of us. Georgia is all better now and I'm getting there. I could seriously strangle whoever manufactured this year's flu vaccine.

  • I wish I knew what to say. But I'm afraid you wouldn't be able to hear me anyway.

    Sorry.
