97th Percentile

Yesterday was your 4-month check-up. You grew and incredible 2.5 inches in the past two months, putting you in the 97th percentile in height (weight=60th, head=50th). At this rate you will surpass your dad in height by age 4.

You got the same three shots this time as last, but it was MUCH better than last time. At least it was much better for me. I didn't cry this time and you didn't cry much.

We tried solids last night for the first time. It seemed to me that the food wasn't as weird as the spoon. You didn't really understand why we weren't giving you a bottle, but you were good-natured about the experience.

We're also supposed to start giving you water in a cup. It's really entertaining to watch you try to figure out how to eat and drink.

Normal?

When you're sleeping in your crib, I carry the monitor everywhere. The weird thing is that lately I've been "hearing" you when you haven't been making any noises. I can stare at the monitor and see that there are no lights indicating noise coming from your room, but I swear I hear your faint cries. From your monitor I can hear the dogs barking, the neighbors mowing and cars driving by loud and clear. But I always hear you whimper quietly, even though you're not making a peep.

Is this normal new parent paranoia or signs of a larger issue?

Spittle

One would think you'd have some teeth to show for all this slobber.

Update

Dear Georgia:
It's been a while since I've written, but I've been enjoying you so much lately that I didn't want to take time away to write. You are going to be 4 months old next week and we can hardly believe it. You found your feet last week and have been enjoying exploring your newly discovered appendages. You also spend a lot of time drooling and chewing on your hands (or anything you can get your hands on). You roll over every which way and are fascinated by watching us brush our teeth.

You are quite a charmer and make fast friends wherever you go. You always have a smile on your face and those around you can't help but reciprocate. You've been introduced to the swimming pool, but I think you enjoy watching the big kids run around as much as you enjoy splashing in the shallow end.

You like to try to hold your bottle and you've grown into size 2 diapers (although you're tall, you're still really skinny)! Tummy time is much more enjoyable for you now that your arms are stronger and you can hold yourself up for longer stretches of time. You've grown into your exersaucer and are showing interest in sitting up (we get a kick out of catching you when you topple over). Your attention span for reading books is short. You're more interested in turning the pages than hearing the story. You still love television and have learned that you need to "speak" louder to be heard in noisy places.

We love you more everyday and are certain there has never been a more talented and remarkable baby (seriously!). We're excited to see you grow, while at the same time savoring each day with you while you're still little. I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!
Love,
Mommy
