Lunch Conversations

You and your brother were so cute at lunch yesterday. Everything you said was adorable. Palmer just looked at you and laughed. Here are a few statement I jotted down.

- My tongue has spaghetti on it.
- My fork has a phone on the back. Hello?
- My birfday is in fev-vu-vary (February).
- This fork is a butterfly. Down it goes!

Once Bitten

Last week your buddy Dominic decided he'd had enough of you trying to take his toy away. So he bit you smack on the cheek. It bled. You cried. So did Dominic's mommy. I think she felt worse than all of us.

One week later and it's healing nicely. You hardly notice it, what with the two swollen lips you mysteriously got while I wasn't looking and the scrape under your eye from your fingernails that need to be cut and the bruise you got when you tripped and smacked your head into a doorjamb.

Resolved

We spent five weeks in KC at the end of the year. I got to see lots of friends that I don’t get to see often and catch up with them. It made me realize that I’m not a very good friend, especially to friends who live out of town. I just don’t seem to have enough time to do everything that needs to be done and keep up with my friends.

I have some of the most amazing friends. Many of them are stay at home moms like me, but they take their babies to swim lessons and dance classes and story time. I have other friends who work full time, then come home to take care of their kids and they still have time to keep in touch. I guess I’m kind of a hybrid. I stay at home with my children, but I help out with the photography business and manage our personal and business finances. After finishing everything that has to be done, I typically crash.

So I decided this year that I was going to resolve to be a better friend. Write more letters, send more e-mails, call more often, get together regularly. But when I sat down to figure out how I was going to find the time to be a better friend, I realized I was going to have to amend my resolution.

Fact is, you two have to be my priority. And I’m (more than)okay with that. As frustrating as it is that I don’t get to see my friends as much as I’d like, I’d regret missing out on your littleness. So I have resolved to be a better friend when I can. I may not get to grab a drink with the girls as often as I'd like, but someday you’ll be big and won’t need me and I’ll have plenty of time for friends then.

Funny thing is, we'll probably sit around drinking and talking about how wonderful things were when all our children were little.

One Of My Favorite Pictures EVER

I love that you actually put on the toy stethoscope, grabbed the toy syringe, walked up to me and said "Hello, I'm Dr. Patil" (she's your pedi). Then you let me take your photo. And it's adorable how brother is in the background toddling around.

Christmas In KC

I can’t remember the last time I was so excited about Christmas. I even had a hard time sleeping the night before.

Oh how much fun it is to see Christmas through my little girl’s eyes! We sang Christmas songs, had pictures taken with Santa, put up the tree, learned about Jesus’ birth, played in the snow and spent lots of time together. Everything was so magical! Every time we asked what you wanted Santa to bring you, you consistently said “cam uh” (camera). Apparently you were a very good girl and listened to your mommy and daddy because Santa brought you just what you wanted. You also got a guitar, which was your second most requested gift, along with lots of clothes and books and toys (so many gifts that we had to bring an additional suitcase back with us).

Your brother is still a little young to really enjoy it all. He liked his gifts because almost all of them were cars. We’d open a gift for him and then wouldn’t see him for several minutes because he was pushing a car around the house.

Posing in your Christmas dress. You learned the hard way, shortly after this picture was taken, that you need to pick up your dress when you go potty.

Reading books with nonny before bedtime.

You two got to open one gift the night before Christmas. You each got Christmas padgees.

They were great for posing in front of the Christmas tree.

And for sitting on the sofa to eat snacks.

Every year we say we're not going to go overboard on the gifts, and every year this happens.

Palmer waiting patiently to open presents.

Still waiting.

Waiting, but not so patiently anymore.

Hey, look. Santa came and filled your stocking.

Perusing your loot.

Helping brother open his stocking.

As much fun as it was to open presents, the boys couldn't resist the awesomeness of the race track.

Cheesy Cheese

During our trip to KC you reaquainted yourself with Cheesy Cheese (EZ Cheese for the rest of us). You wouldn't allow us to put it on a plate or, God forbid, a cracker. You would only accept Cheesy Cheese if we squeezed it onto your finger.

Brother didn't have the same love for Cheesy Cheese.

In fact, he pretty much hated it.
