Weiner Dog Races
Jana took you to the Weiner Dog Races in Buda this weekend while mommy and daddy shot a wedding. You had HUGE fun jumping in the bouncy house,
going down the HUGE slide (you giggled while Jana screamed)
Your baby brother got pretty tired watching all the puppy dogs in the parade.

and pet the animals. You weren't too impressed with the little cows.

Magic Jana
I'm not sure why we've never blogged about Jana, but I figure it's about time since she's been watching you for your entire lives. Jana is one of our former brides and has a ton of experience with babies and kids. We love her and trust her completely. You and Palmer absolutely adore her! She's become like a member of the family and we consider her more of a partner in parenting than a babysitter.
We call Jana "Magic Jana" because when you are with her you eat vegetables and your brother sleeps through the night. It's amazing the things you'll do for her that you won't do for us.
You stayed with Jana (and her equally wonderful husband, Stephen) when your brother was born, and Palmer stayed with them when you had the flu. She was indescribably generous this weekend and offered to keep you overnight so your daddy and I could have a day sans children.
You would think that we would have spent our alone time doing fun stuff, but we decided to tackle our ever-growing list of things to do around the house. So, instead of laying around watching movies and doing little else, we patched a couple of holes in the living room wall, power washed the back porch and stained the fence. Not exactly how I would have preferred to spend my day, but it feels really good to get three big things off our to do list.
Jana returned you to us happy, smiling and cleaner than you left. Here are some photos of Jana and Stephen from your birthday party this past February.

Egg Hunt
Finally posting photos from your Easter egg hunt this year. I stuffed 150 eggs with Goldfish crackers, stickers, mini Nilla Wafers and other low-sugar treats. You were so uninterested. We did the hunt with your friend, Jessie, at the little park by her house. You were more interested in playing than gathering eggs.
You humored me by picking up one egg and placing it in your basket before tossing the basket in a mad dash to the swings.

Unfortunately, you're dash was thwarted by a pesky rock in your shoe.
I thought I was being sly by hiding an egg in the swing. You were irritated that it was in your way.
You look so grown up to me in this picture.
You may have been unimpressed with the egg hunt, but you were so tuckered out that you fell asleep while swinging. That alone makes stuffing 150 Easter eggs worth it!

Busy Weekend
I think this is the best family weekend we've ever had. Your daddy had a rare weekend off, so we got to spend a lot of time doing family things.
Saturday your school had a carnival-type event where you went on your first "hay ride" (if you consider a trip on a trailer pulled by a John Deere lawn mower around a drainage ditch a hay ride), ate junk food and spent about an hour jumping in the huge bouncy house.
Sunday we skipped your nap because your friend, Leo, was having his third birthday party at Zilker Park. The big attraction was a ride on the Zilker Zephyr, a little train that goes all around the park, under a bridge and through a tunnel. We told you about the party and train ride several days in advance, so you were really looking forward to it. We practiced singing "Happy Birthday Leo" for days, but you still didn't sing along. You seemed a bit confused about the pinata activity, and you watched patiently for a few minutes before becoming bored and asking for cake. You never eat the cake, only the icing.
The entire weekend was so much fun! You and your brother were very well behaved, and you're still talking about how you took a ride on a train through a tunnel and under a bridge.

Prodigal
Last week I was cooking dinner while you played in your little brother's exersaucer. I half-listened to you chatter to yourself while I stirred spaghetti and literally dropped the spoon when I realized that you had been counting to ten IN SPANISH.
You now know as much Spanish as your father and I put together.

I Was A Good Mom Today
I wish I could say this every day, but since I can't I'd like to pat myself on the back.
Today wasn't a very easy day, but I think I handled myself pretty well. I could tell Georgia's two-ness was eager to rear its ugly head several times this morning. But a little patience helped us both get through a couple of sticky situations that could have resulted in tantrums.
When Lifetime Fitness decided to test its fire alarm system during my workout today, thereby scaring the living daylights out of you two, I walked right up to the member services desk (after finally calming you both) and berated them for frightening you and all the other children in the nursery (the place is open 24 hours, so the system could easily be tested overnight when the nursery is closed). This may not seem like a big deal, but I'm not one to stir the pot, so sticking up for my children was a pretty big accomplishment for me.
But the most reassuring part of the day was when my sweet boy was diagnosed with his first ear infection. Sounds a little strange, I know. The reassuring part wasn't the fact that you have an ear infection, but that I had a hunch you had an ear infection and it turns out that's precisely what the problem was (although I suspected the wrong ear). One interesting note about today's diagnosis...you were cranky, clingy and wouldn't sleep before the diagnosis. You were even fussy while we waited to see the doctor. But once it was announced that your little ear was infected, everything with you was fine. We had to wait 45 minutes for your RX and you were giggling and pleasant the whole time. It's strange, but it's almost like you knew relief was coming.
So that was my good mom day. I didn't save any lives or feed hundreds of starving children in Africa. I didn't make any difference in the world at large, but I think I made a difference in your little worlds. And that's all I really care about right now.

Trials And Tribulations of Being Two
This morning you threw yourself on the cold, hard kitchen floor, kicking and screaming because I wouldn't let you eat condensed milk for snack.

Mission Never Accomplished
How is it possible that I'm always running around doing half a dozen things at a time, yet I never seem to actually accomplish anything?
